Dr. Jerome Higgs is a Bahamas native and earned his Bachelor of Science with a minor in Chemistry from Voorhees University. He later pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular and Cellular Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), focusing on the therapeutic potential of genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cells expressing osteoprotegerin variants in osteolytic Multiple Myeloma. Subsequently, Dr. Higgs enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UAB, kickstarting his career in the outpatient setting. Specializing in orthopedics and manual therapy, he is also certified in dry needling.
During his time in clinical practice, Dr. Higgs served as a clinical instructor, fostering a passion for the development of future therapists. His diverse interests extend to oncology and disease processes, orthopedics and access to healthcare. Additionally, Dr. Higgs founded PATHCS, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing healthcare services to minority and underserved populations. He joined the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2023.
