Who Attends: ATs, PTs and OTs (Note to Athletic Trainers: According to the education levels described by the PDC, the following continuing education seminar is considered to be Mastery Level. 15 approved CEU hours.)

This emergency procedures seminar will highlight current best practices in the field of athletic training. This seminar will deliver a hands-on approach to emphasizing the proper skill set required for handling emergency situations. Circumstances addressed will include head trauma, spinal cord injury, establishing and maintaining airways, managing environmental illness, patient death, and many others.

SCHEDULE
DAY ONE

8:30 – 10:00 AM – Introduction; Neurological Examination (Unconscious/Conscious); Patient Assessment / Management – Medical & Trauma
10:00 – 10:15 AM – BREAK
10:15 – 12:30 AM – Secondary Survey (Medical & Trauma); Rapid Trauma Assessment; Extreme Sports; Peer Review Skills / Scenario Testing
12:30 – 1:30 PM – LUNCH HOUR
1:30 – 3:00 PM – CPR Class (CPR renewal fee included in tuition); Putting it all together (System for Trauma/Medical Patient); Peer Review Skills / Scenario Testing
3:00 – 3:15 PM – BREAK
3:15 – 5:30 PM – Continued; Practice Skills Testing

DAY TWO

8:30 – 10:00 AM – Chest Trauma (Chest Pain /  Chest wounds / Punctures); Flail Chest; Sucking Chest Wound; Abdominal Trauma; Pelvic Fractures; Depressed Skull Fractures
10:00 – 10:15 AM -BREAK
10:15 – 12:30 PM -Airway Management with known cervical spine injury / spinal cord injury (-O2 Application, -BVM NRB, Cannula, CPR Mask w/ Suppliment O2; Oral Airway, Nasal Airway; Trachea, Suction (Rigid & Soft), -Peer Review Skills / Scenario Testing
12:30 – 1:30 PM – LUNCH BREAK
1:15 – 3:15 PM – Moving a patient; Lifting Techniques (Single person, Two Rescuer, Team); Equipment used for lifting and moving patients; Rescue Basket (Stokes) water / land; Cervical Immobilization; Hazardous Situations; Safety, Move and Triage; Violent Situations; Safety, Move and Triage; Fire: Fuel issues, Smoke issues, Chemical Issues;  Peer Review Skills / Scenario
3:15 – 3:30 PM -BREAK
3:30 – 4:45 PM -Essential Equipment; State practice acts related to emergency care
