Dr. Claryssa (Clary) Montgomery joined the University in 2023 as a clinical educator and transitioned to her current position in October 2024. Her experiences as a medical speech-language pathologist (SLP) navigating the healthcare systems in Texas and New York have influenced her approach to patient care and clinical mentorship.
Dr. Montgomery’s areas of clinical expertise include the assessment and treatment of aerodigestive disorders and acquired cognitive-communication disorders in adults, palliative and end-of-life care, interprofessional education and collaboration, and clinical education and supervision, primarily in acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings.
Her primary research interest is healthcare policy and its effect on access to rehabilitation services. She maintains membership and involvement with the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and currently serves as an ASHA student-to-empowered professional mentor to students and young professionals nationwide.
