Dr. Lizzette Roman-Marrero has more than 10 years of experience in higher education and 35 years of clinical experience. She earned a master’s and doctorate in speech-language pathology and a doctorate in human services with a specialty in gerontology.
Before joining the University, she was the program director for the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program for Albizu University in Puerto Rico for 10 years and in Miami, FL for nine years. During her tenure, she provided strategic leadership in achieving and maintaining eight-year Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) reaccreditation (Puerto Rico programs) and five-year CAA of ASHA initial accreditation (Miami, FL). She also designed and developed the clinical education model for graduate students at Albizu University.
Dr. Roman-Marrero is a bilingual speech-language pathologist and a certified member of ASHA. She has worked clinically in various settings, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing (long-term and subacute care) and private practice. Her clinical practice has focused on serving adult and geriatric populations with neurological impairments resulting in speech, language, cognitive and swallowing concerns.
Her research and scholarly work include numerous national and international presentations and speaking invitations on topics including dysphagia, swallowing disorders, cultural competencies and responsiveness, and cognitive-communication disorders.
Dr. Roman-Marrero joined the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in December 2024.
