With nearly three decades of experience in speech-language pathology, Kathryn Flurry Mercer has worked in a variety of adult and pediatric healthcare settings, as well as diverse educational environments. She joined the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) in 2019 and works as the clinical coordinator of the MS-SLP program on the Dallas, TX campus, where she coordinates interactive pediatric clinical experiences for students.
Her clinical expertise includes pediatric communication disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, and neurodiverse communication issues. She has presented on counseling issues related to communication impairments, including mindfulness and trauma-informed practices. In her clinical practice and teaching, her approach is centered on making authentic connections and encouraging students to rely on their strengths while developing and refining their clinical skills. She was recognized with a 2023 USAHS Board Excellence Award for excellence in teaching. She is a former president of Austin Area Speech Pathologists and is a current member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s special interest group for counseling.
